The more we visit, the more we discover….
I have very fond memories of the Isle of Wight from childhood holidays and in recent years when my husband and I visited with our own young family we were reminded of just how wonderful this gem of an island is.
The Island is one of the sunniest places in the UK, has 57 miles of varied coastline with both sandy and shingle beaches, rugged cliffs, hidden coves and clear waters and yet is only a couple of hours from London. Escaping to the Island is a tonic; all the day-to-day stresses are somehow left behind as you sail the Solent on the short ferry crossing.
We were lucky to find Hilda Cottage and we loved it from the minute we first walked in. It was to be our family’s bolt hole by the sea, just a minute’s walk from the beach, a place where our children can feel the salt on their faces and sand between their toes and enjoy hours of fun playing on the beach. A place where our parents can visit with their friends and enjoy holidays and short-breaks walking the coastal paths, enjoying the lovely eateries and visiting places of historical interest. Last but not least, a place where my husband and I can simply recharge our batteries.
Hilda became ours in 2015 and we lovingly and extensively refurbished it, bringing the house up to a high level of comfort. Our choice of blue, grey and driftwood palettes was a subtle nod to the fact we are beside the sea. Our aim was to create a calming and relaxing haven, whilst being durable enough to stand up to family life. We created an environment that is spacious for sharing with friends, yet still lovely and cosy to snuggle up in front of the fire.
The Isle of Wight is just fantastic, in fact, the more we visit, the more we discover. We have made some wonderful memories here and I hope you enjoy it just as much.
